There is no denying the fact that iOS and Android have known to compete over the relative merits of their devices unofficially. More than that, the ongoing tug of war between their users regarding the functionalities and user experience, although humorous, cannot be ignored.

Now that the year 2020 is coming to an end, one question that remains unanswered is which family of devices performs better. We understand it is tricky to answer, but as a leading mobile app development company, that is the reality — each operating system has its pros and cons. Hence, without any delay, let us analyze their breakthrough achievements in 2020:

Operating System

Apple and Google have released their latest operating systems a few months back. You might experience the newest OS on your Android or iOS devices.

iOS 10

iOS 10 comes with cleaner notifications, visual tweaks to Apple Maps and Apple Music, smarter automatic tagging in Photos, and more emojis and effects in iMessages. There is no any drastic change in iOS 10 in compared to iOS9.

iOS 13

iOS 13 is Apple’s latest operating system for iPhones and iPads. Although it arrived in 2019, its most recent update happened sometime in the middle of August in 2020.

The update mainly focused on bug fixes. However, its long line of advanced features such as Dark Mode, revamped Photos apps, new Siri voice, a Find My App, Audio Sharing, automated shortcuts, AirDrop with Ultra-Wideband technology, and more are enthralling users worldwide!

With this version, Apple has also added a “Sign in with Apple” feature to give its users a convenient and secure way of signing into apps and websites. This was a much-needed feature provided how the risk of data leakage and cyber threats has grown in the last several years.

Android7.0 Nougat

On the other hand, Nougat 7.0 offers native support for a dedicated VR mode, notification grouping, multiple windows, and the ability to run apps directly from the web without installing them. There are many other tweaks as well, including battery performance.

Android 10.0 KitKat

Android 10 launched this September, starting with Google Pixel and then moving on to Samsung’s current lineup and other Android phones. The update includes new features like:

  • Gesture navigation that enables users to tap and swipe to move across apps and go back to the home screen
  • QR code creation for WiFi networks
  • Granular-level location control to allow apps to access a user’s location only when they are actively using the app
  • Better notification controls that swing between Alerting and Silent
  • Live Caption to enable users to read captions as a video is played on the phone

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence has already penetrated on Android and iOS platforms. Both the companies have launched their AI innovations for the smartphones. Google has introduced ‘Google Assistance’ for Android phones. While Apple has announced ‘Siri’ as it’s super intelligent digital assistant. Both are the hi-tech features of iOS and Android platform that facilitate users with voice-controlled access to their phone. Additionally, it gives smart prompts for events and travels whenever users need them.

Siri

Siri provides instant voice messages for all questions and queries of the users. It doesn’t store information on Apple server. Siri delivers separate answers for all questions asked by users and forgets the replies once the window has been closed. Moreover, sometimes Siri gives sarcastic answers to the users with aggressive responses.

Google Assistance

Google has introduced Google Assistant for the Android platform. You can experience this unique features in a recently released app from Google named ‘Google Allo’. Google Assistance offers innovative features such as auto response, extra information, memory, extended research capability, enhanced user reach, and much more.

Next Generation Wearables

Wearables becomes trendsetters in the tech industry. Google Glass, smartwatches, wristbands, GPS shoes, interactive clothes, fin ring and many other wearables are available in the market. As we are focusing on iOS and Android, we can compare smartwatches of both the platforms.

Apple Smartwatches

Apple has their own range smartwatches. Users sync the smartwatch with the iPhone and check out all updates such as messages, emails, calls, etc. using the Apple Watch.

Android Smartwatches

Android doesn’t have its own smartwatches. However, smartphone provider companies develop Android-based smartwatches such as Samsung, Motorola, LG, HTC, and much more. The watch interacts with the Android-based smartphones and users can have all the updates on their wrists.

Smartphone Devices

Recently Google and Apple have released revolutionary smartphone devices for their respective platforms. You must get the idea what I am talking about!

iOS has launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The latest iPhone offers enhanced retina HD display, rear facing camera, improved battery life, dual camera, enhanced water resistance, faster LTE speed, better storage options, and so on.
